Conquering the Sunday Scaries: A Guide to Reclaiming Weekends and Energizing Mondays

Do you ever find yourself grappling with the Sunday scaries or the dread of another Monday on the horizon? It's a sentiment I've encountered repeatedly among my coaching clients. The weight of years of stress and overwhelm can culminate in an unsettling sense of apprehension as the workweek unfolds.

But fear not – I'm here to share some actionable tips that can transform your weekends into a source of recovery and refreshment, setting the stage for energized and focused Mondays.

1. Create Intention on Your Weekend:

Take a moment to assess your needs. Do you crave rest? Give yourself the permission to indulge. Seeking novelty? Embrace the opportunity to try something new. Longing for connection? Incorporate genuine connections into your weekend to refuel and recharge.

Don’t get stuck on your endless to-do list and list of shoulds. Decide what you need most and align your weekend plans to recharge for the week ahead.

2. Transition into Your Monday Morning with Intention:

Break the habit of checking your phone and email the moment you wake up. Craft a morning routine that allows for a gradual transition into your workday. Whether it's listening to a focused podcast, taking a contemplative walk, or prioritizing tasks for the week ahead, invest the first 10 minutes of your morning in intentional planning before diving into emails.

3. Assess Your Role:

As you step into the week, ask yourself a crucial question: Are you the best person for this task? In the whirlwind of busyness and stress, it's easy to perceive yourself as the solution to every problem. Pause before taking on additional tasks and consider whether it aligns with your role. Explore the additional resources at your disposal.

4. Build Transition Points for Busy Mornings:

For working parents or those facing hectic mornings, introduce a transition point. Avoid the jarring shift from getting kids off to school to diving into your first meeting. Even if you work from home, simulate a commute-like transition between your initial and subsequent tasks.

5. Come Back to Your Why:

Purpose can often be obscured amidst the chaos of the workweek rush. Consider the story of a coaching client, a financial advisor, who incorporated a brief walk around her office. In just 5-10 minutes, she connected with the energy and care she has for her clients, grounding her morning in calm and focused energy.

Bonus: Overwhelmed? Write It Out.

When the weight of overwhelm hits, put pen to paper. Writing it out helps visualize and comprehend the challenges at hand.

Which of these strategies will you give a try this week? Share your thoughts and experiences in the comments below! Let's conquer those Sunday scaries together.
